Today we present the Radial HotShot DM-1 and HotShot 48V, microphone switches that enable internal communication between band members on stage.
Communication between members on stage, FOH and monitoring is a creative process in which all participants work together to achieve optimal sound. In order to make this communication as good as possible, Radial presented its new innovative switch, which certainly made it easier. HotShot replaces the use of an additional communication internal microphone on stage and turns the main vocal microphones into a means of internal communication.
Radial HotShot DM-1
Radial HotShot DM-1 The Radial HotShot DM-1 is a passive microphone and mute switch for dynamic microphones that enables instant signal switching between two outputs.
It consists of one XLR input and two XLR outputs. So by pressing the switch, the band member switches the output microphone signal to internal or in-ear montioring and communicates through his microphone with the band members, while the audience cannot hear him. This allows the musician to discreetly communicate with other band members or report a technical problem to the technicians. As soon as the foot switch is pressed again, the system automatically returns to normal operation. For the best communication, it is possible to connect several HotShot switches to one channel, that is, to connect several microphones on stage, which enables mutual communication.
The HotShot DM-1 can also be used as a way to add special effects to your vocals. To achieve this, connect one output channel to a normal vocal channel, and connect the other to a channel with additional effects, such as an echo. By pressing the switch, you can instantly change the channel and turn on the effects, and by pressing it again, you can turn off the effects.
Another way to use the Radial HotShot is as a mute switch. Connect one output and simply turn off the output signal in various situations by pressing the switch (Cough Button).
Since the HotShot DM-1 is a passive switch, there is no need for additional power supply, but this is exactly the reason why microphones that need additional power supply (phantom power) cannot be connected to it. Radial HotShot 48V was created to solve that problem.
Radial HotShot 48V
The Hotshot 48v is the perfect solution for anyone who wants to control the outputs of a condenser microphone. It allows 48V phantom power to be sent to the capacitor and is also useful on dynamic microphones. Its functionality and connection schemes are the same as those of the DM-1, the difference being that using this switch requires an additional power supply (9VDC) and that it is visible on the switch which output you are on at the moment.
To avoid the audible pop during switching, which sometimes occurs due to phantom power reaching the microphone, the HotShot 48V uses active circuitry and a time-delay microcontroller for silent switching. The 5-millisecond delay is short enough to be unnoticed by the performer but long enough to dissipate any DC leakage, preventing audible noise and ensuring seamless switching during any performance.
Another difference is the additional Latch function, which enables you to switch between outputs by pressing and holding the switch. Moving your foot off the switch restores the previous output.
