DPA specialized microphone intended for drums

We present to you the new 4055 Kick drum microphone, a specialized microphone for drums and low frequency and high SPL instruments.

Unlike traditional kick drum microphones, this new addition to the DPA product line is a durable microphone solution that is not pre-tailored to any specific sound, allowing sound engineers (audio technicians) to shape the sound to their liking. he 4055 kick drum microphone has been rigorously tested to perform in a variety of genres – such as pop, rock, jazz, folk and more. It's built to withstand the rigors of life on the road and to perform just as well in studio.

Intentionally used for a specific drum application, the 4055 delivers the familiar DPA sound, capturing the true, clean sound of the instrument. Microphone also offers a linear frequency response, both on and off axis, resulting in a very tight, natural, well-defined sound. Low sounds are sharper and pick the right setting for the beat, while removing some of the mid-range is easier than ever before.

Shape

The DPA 4055 is another unique feature that sets it apart from other drum microphones. It’s asymmetrical design makes it easy to position when placed in any size drum without the risk of the drumhead cracking. It can also be positioned inside or outside off the kick drum, so finding the ideal position is quick and effortless. Additionally, the 4055 has a large body and enough wind dampening foam, positioned in front of the capsule behind the grille, to deal with turbulence in front of drum holes. This is achieved without compromising reception or sound quality.

We are very excited about the creative possibilities and high-quality sound this new drum microphone provides in live and recording applications,'' says Rene Mørch, Product Director, DPA Microphones A/S. ''While people turn to DPA for our miniature solutions, we know they are also used to using a large drum mic that can handle high SPLs and dampen the inherent wind created by moving the drum head. We took all of this into account when designing the 4055 microphone, and working with several engineers during development, we created a great solution that's unobtrusive and delivers the best sound available on the market.''

The DPA 4055 is not limited to the kick drum. It works equally well on other instruments, such as electric guitar cabinets, bass and horns. Its flat frequency response and ability to bring the uncolored sound to the next level works well on many instrument types.
