Trsat castle is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city of Rijeka. This strategically embossed lookout point on a 138 meter high hill was first mentioned in 1288. Today it represents the biggest cultural and heritage attraction in the Rijeka area. Throughout the year, it attracts a large number of domestic and foreign visitors and offers various contents and events. Trsat Castle is managed by the Rijeka Tourist Board. As part of the EmoUndergrounds project, precisely in order to improve the offer, Rijeka Tourist Board embarks on renovation and modernization of the exhibition set. For this purpose, concept of a new exhibition was created, that would be based on multimedia equipment, thus providing a new approach to interpretation of cultural heritage. Concept of the exhibition in the crypt area of Trsat Castle, divided the “cave” space into three chambers that represent three conceptually related, but partially different interpretive experiences.
We were contacted by the client to equip those three spaces with multimedia equipment. Our offer and the products themselves, with their specifications, met the client’s needs, and we started delivery and installation process. Since the crypt is a protected cultural property, no damage to the appearance or drilling was allowed, so we were forced to think carefully about the installation method. In cooperation with conservators, the equipment was adapted and mounted on already existing profiles located inside Trsat crypt.
In first of three exhibition chambers, we installed AllSee AO55 interactive display and AllSee TWP43A kiosk with a multi-touch screen and stand. This exhibition chamber was conceived as the very beginning of multimedia experience. On installed interactive display and touch screen, visitors can access content related to development of Trsat castle. Screens allow you to explore the castle through the 3D views of building historical development.
Upon entering in second chamber, audio recordings are provided, and as a solution for an audio system that will pass through all three spaces, we have offered and installed six RCF WMR50T speakers located in the first two chambers of the exhibition, as well as two RCF WMR60T speakers, that will be used for playback of the sound materials that are shown in the final chamber. The WMR50T and WMR60T are versatile two-way speakers, suitable for a wide range of applications. Their high-quality transducers guarantee precise sound reproduction of the entire frequency band and provide impressive sound pressure levels for such a compact housing. Installation of them is very simple thanks to the dedicated connection plate inside included wall mount. We then mounted the speaker on a custom bracket to easily attach it to the existing profiles. Speakers are connected to two RCF DMA 162P amplifiers. For easier system control, all of previously mentioned components are connected to the Xilica A0808 digital DSP audio processor.
The last of the three chambers was imagined as the pinnacle of the interpretation experience, where a targeted production film will be projected onto the northern wall of the “cave”. For video projection purposes, a Sony VPL-PHZ51 projector was provided and connected to a media player and two previously mentioned RCF WMR60T speakers. All equipment was soon put into operation and the exhibition was opened to the public.
