Introducing: 2012 Cardioid & 2015 Wide Cardioid – New DPA microphones for live sound production

Dpa 2012 and 2015

DPA 2012 Compact Cardioid Microphone

DPA 2012
The 2012 Compact Cardioid Microphone is a versatile pencil microphone that guarantees top results on a variety of instruments when producing live sound. Main characteristics:

  • Durable, reinforced construction

  • Excellent transient response

  • Even cardioid orientation

  • Outstanding SPL controllability

  • Natural and precise sound reproduction

The 2012 Cardioid is the best all-around microphone you can find while covering a wide range of close miking needs for live performance. It is a robust and reliable condenser microphone, best when recording one instrument. Its particularly powerful characteristics make it an extremely flexible microphone that will shine on many instruments, especially high-frequency ones.

Durable, reinforced construction

The 2012 is built to withstand life on a busy live stage. It has a thicker, more robust brass body construction that is very durable and known for its corrosion resistance and metal fatigue tolerance. In addition to the durable materials used, the surfaces of the handle and microphone grills are finished with a black chrome protection, which ensures a more graceful aging.

Incomparable transient response

The 2012 is a professional condenser microphone, making it the best choice for instruments that produce high frequencies. t has a far better transient response than any dynamic microphone, allowing it to capture the most delicate sound with tremendous accuracy.

Uniform cardioid directivity

The 2012 features a cardioid capsule with DPA's famous flat off-axis response In addition to high gain before feedback, this characteristic makes it easier for sound engineers to handle bleed from other instruments in close proximity. The 2012 picks up off-axis sounds in a very natural and attenuated way.

Outstanding SPL processing

The 2012 can handle extremely high SPL as well as capture very delicate sounds. At maximum SPL, a pre-clipping peak of 156dB, the 2012 performs superbly on many different instruments and can handle the loudest drums, guitars, horns and more.

Natural and precise sound reproduction

Like all other DPA microphones, the 2012 delivers pure, transparent sound quality.

Key applications:

  •  Snare drum

  • Hi-hats

  • Electric guitar cabinets

  • Percussion

  • Congas and bongos

  • Acoustic guitar

  • Horns

DPA 2015 Compact Wide Cardioid Microphone

DPA 2015

Overhead microphone for ambient sounding on a live stage

The compact wide cardioid microphone 2015 is used for ambient sounding of drum sets or other groups of instruments.

Main characteristics:

  • Durable, reinforced construction

  • Uniform wide cardioid directivity

  • Spacious sound thanks to the wide cardioid pickup pattern

  • Natural and precise sound reproduction

  • Compact design for unobtrusive placement on stage

In a live situation where a conventional cardioid pattern is not open enough, choose a pair of compact wide cardioids 2015. They work ideally as an overhead for recording a balanced sound of a whole group of instruments, such as a drum kit. Also, when recording groups of instruments with complex sound dispersion, the wide cardioid (also known as hemispherical, subcardioid, or hypocardioid) design covers a larger angle of the sound and is an excellent choice.

Durable, reinforced construction

As , DPA 2015 is built to last live on stage It has a thicker, more robust brass body construction that is very durable and known for its corrosion resistance and metal fatigue tolerance. In addition to the durable materials used, the surfaces of the handle and microphone grills are finished with a black chrome protection, which ensures a more graceful aging.

Uniform wide cardioid directivity

2015 has wide cardiod capusle with well known DPA's famous flat off-axis response In addition to high gain before feedback, this characteristic makes it easier for sound engineers to handle bleed from other instruments in close proximity. The 2015 picks up off-axis sounds in a very natural and attenuated way.

Spacious, wide cardioid recording pattern

You can place the 2015 near a drum set, closer than you would normally place overhead mics, and it will still pick up sound evenly across the entire drum set. This closer position results in a stronger signal from the drum kit resulting in less sound spillage from the stage.

Natural and precise sound reproduction

Same as DPA 2012 and all others DPA mics, 2015 offers very clean, real sound.

Compact design for unobtrusive placement on stage

Although the 2015 can be purchased as a single mic, it really shines as a matched stereo pair, selected with +/- 1.5 dB sensitivity tolerance. The compact design of this stereo pair ensures an open, natural sound pick-up without blocking any of the exciting action on stage.
